The establishment of a place of memory in Buenos Aires Province. Mansión Seré, Morón, 1983-2007

Abstract

In this work we reconstruct the institutional and political process of recreating Mansión Seré as a place of memory (Nora, 1984). During the first years of last military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983), this house served as a people ´s torture and disappearance centre. In 2000 the local council along with human rights organizations decided to convert it into a place to recall and transmit the events occurred under state terrorism. By using documents and interviews, we reconstruct and analize the institutional and political history of the development of a policy of memory in Mansión Seré and the initial process of creation of a memory program
