Abstract

In light of their self-definitions, we can notice the evolution of the Zapatista movement from an indigenous peasants, and dye-democratic "multicultural" - a popular Indian-force democratic and capitalist. The feature that specifies the movement is to have made the issue of "indigenous peoples" a social and political issue at the same time without reducing it to a legal-political conflict with the state. In the context of academic debates and controversies, and policy-generated in recent years on this evolution, we set out to explore the process, focusing on relations between the Zapatista communities in motion, and Mexican civil society
