Abstract

Whereas it is possible to think the history of education as a way for reconstructing the production and circulation of ideas in a certain time, this work is intended not only to begin the study of a educator such as Victor Mercante [1870-1934], involved in education in Argentina in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but begin to explore his career permeated by the discussions and debates of his time. Mercante provides a look that presents key innovative aspects of a particular historical period, rich of cultural perspectives that are concentrated on it. To this purpose we have worked on analyzing the content of educational reform Saavedra- Lamas, which is mentor and their theoretical basis, from the very thought of Mercante and the conditions under which it was implemented and where was repealed. The final goal is to reach an explanation that accounts for the terms of the relationship between intellectual traditions, political and social actors in the context of educational reform
