Abstract

This article intends to reconstruct the process of social and political struggles that the Argentinean society was going through in the mid-50's from a local perspective. The dialogue between the national and the local reality is aimed at problematizing the current interpretations in the light of the Mar del Plata's experience. The article starts by identifying the 'revolucion libertadora' as a landmark in Argentinean history; later, it recreates the social and political climate at that time in Mar del Plata in order to finally make an analytical description of the juncture of coup in the city. After the historical reconstruction of the period, in the final comments, the author risks an interpretation of the process as an incipient civil war and characterizes what occurred in Mar del Plata since September 19 th as a prelude of what was going to happen to the Argentinean society after the coup d'état on November 13 th 1955
