Las muchachas ahorrativas: El rol de las mujeres peronistas en el Plan Económico de Austeridad y el 2 º Plan Quinquenal

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze the role assigned to the peronist women. Also I will examine the function of the basic units, which belonged to the Peronist Feminine Party, as promoters of the saving inside the domestic economy. This proposal was part of the Economic Plan of Austerity and then, of the Second Quinquennial Plan. Afterwards the important confirmation obtained, in the elections of November 1951, about the government popularity, the president Perón considered timely to produce a rectification and an adjustment in the course of the economic policy. It was about a series of procedures, essential to overcome a juncture which was turning critical, situation that could be summarized in the increase of production and in the austerity consume. This last responsibility fell in the women - housewives abetted in the action of the Basic Feminine Units - whose acted as councilors and promoters of the austerity plans implementing a series of actions which go from cooking courses, with alternative and cheaper products, to the control of the shops which did not fulfill with the official maximum prices.
